Points tested migration from Vietnam

How SkillSelect works.

SkillSelect is the Australian Government system for skilled workers who want to express interest in subclasses 189, 190 and 491. The EOI records your claims. It is not a visa application.

Minimum published threshold65Points does not guarantee an invitation

The sequence

Ten steps from occupation review to supporting evidence.

Vietnamese qualification records, employment history and English evidence should be checked before claims are entered in the EOI.

  1. Identify the relevant skilled occupation

Compare your actual duties and qualifications with an occupation that is relevant to the intended visa pathway.

  2. Check the occupation requirements

Review the relevant skilled occupation list, assessing authority and occupation specific requirements.

  3. Obtain the required skills assessment

Prepare the documents requested by the assessing authority for the nominated occupation.

  4. Confirm English language evidence

Check which evidence is accepted and whether an exemption category applies to your circumstances.

  5. Calculate the points score

Review age, qualifications, employment history, English and other points test factors.

  6. Submit an Expression of Interest

Enter information through SkillSelect using claims that can later be supported with documents.

  7. Seek state or territory nomination where relevant

For subclass 190 or a relevant subclass 491 pathway, check the current requirements of the jurisdiction.

  8. Receive an invitation to apply

Only an invitation opens the relevant visa application stage. Invitation scores are not fixed by this website.

  9. Lodge the visa application through ImmiAccount

Submit the application within the invitation period and follow the current document instructions.

  10. Provide supporting evidence

Upload identity, skills, English, health, character and other evidence requested for the application.

For subclasses 189, 190 and 491, the current published minimum points threshold is 65 points. Reaching 65 points does not guarantee an invitation to apply.

Before the EOI

Claims should be document ready.

An EOI does not usually require every document at the moment of submission, but the claims must be accurate and supportable at visa stage.

Occupation file

Check the evidence chain.

  • Occupation and ANZSCO duties where applicable
  • Relevant assessing authority
  • Qualifications, transcripts and course records
  • Employment references, dates and duties
  • English test result or accepted evidence
  • Professional registration or licensing where required

Nomination and invitation

State nomination is a separate assessment.

State and territory governments set their own nomination requirements. A state nomination interest form, invitation or registration is not the same as a visa grant.

Subclass 190

Permanent pathway

State or territory nomination is required. Review the relevant jurisdiction's current occupation, residence, work and evidence requirements.

Subclass 491

Regional pathway

Nomination or eligible family sponsorship may be relevant. Regional residence and work requirements continue after grant.

Invitation

Not automatic

Meeting the minimum points threshold or lodging an EOI does not guarantee an invitation to apply.
